Fundraising letters, Sally Foster Gift Wrap, Peet's cards, the Carnival Silent Auction, eScrip. Do you ever wonder what happens to the money raised through these annual and ongoing Thousand Oaks activities?

The Thousand Oaks PTA uses these activities to raise support for teachers, classrooms, and school-wide initiatives. Last year, members of the T.O. community contributed almost $55,000 through donations and purchases—a few dollars at a time. These funds are paying for:

• Our Sports 4 Kids coach, Melissa, who provides guided play and conflict resolution on the yard, as well as teaching PE for the Kinder and 3 rd grade classes—$21,000
• Classroom Grants, which provide funds for teachers to use for field trips, new books, science materials, writing supplies, computer software, flashcards, photography equipment, and much more—$10,000.
• Arts in the classroom, through a partnership with MOCHA (the Museum of Children’s Art)—$7,000.
• A one-day planning session before the start of school, which gave teachers a chance to work with our new principal to develop a plan to ensure a safe and supportive school environment—$5,000.

The PTA also uses contributions to help strengthen the T.O. community, through annual events like Feliz Fridays, Harvest Festival, Math Night, Science Fair, and especially the Spring Carnival. These special events give families and children a chance to socialize, learn, and celebrate!
